Snack Attack: Sliced Cucumber and Hummus Topped with Walnut Oil and Hemp Seeds



Need a pick-me-up?......here's my afternoon snack of sliced cucumber and hummus topped with walnut oil and hemp seeds:

You can only get energy from carbohydrates and sugars? Right? Wrong!! Many of us often think that the best way to get energy to the body is by consuming carbohydrates and sugars, particularly if we are looking to increase our energy levels much quicker. While carbohydrates can certainly help release energy slowly, proteins actually take longer to break down in the body, meaning they release energy much slower.

Highly underestimated and lacking in most salads these days cucumbers contain Vitamins B1, B2, B3, B5, Folic Acid, Calcium, Vitamin C, Iron, Magnesium, Phosphorus, Potassium, and Zinc. All of these important nutrients to keep you healthy and happy! :D

Furthermore, ditch the coffee and eat a cucumber instead. Cucumbers are chock-full of B vitamins and carbohydrates that can provide just the energy you need.

Hemp seeds can also help you provide your body with a great natural source of energy, it's a great source of iron, and like the mineral iron, magnesium helps our bodies fight off tiredness and fatigue. Magnesium also helps support healthy bones and muscles and plays a crucial role in the creation of energy in the body.

Hemp seeds are bursting with protein power, containing (one of the best natural sources of protein you can find). Protein also helps fuel your body by building and repairing cells during the day, so if you introduce hemp into your diet you will enjoy the slow releasing energy power of these super seeds. Try sprinkling these on your salads for a delicious nutty flavour.

Walnut oil when used in salad dressings add a great flavour. Avoid using it at high temperatures, as the heat can turn the oil bitter and destroy some of its antioxidant properties....now here's the thing! Being an essential fatty acid it can play an important part in improving memory and focus and is a rich source of energy and hold many health benefits!
