This UNUSUAL Smoothie Kept Me Healthy for Weeks Without Solid Food

If you follow my blogs, you'll know; I recently spoke about a herbal detox plan I was trying. This detox coincided with a month-long food fast . My diet only consisted of liquid foods and water soluble foods (salads, veg and fruit) in order to give the digestive system a rest and better absorb all the minerals and vitamins I've been putting into my body. This strict (yet manageable) fast also allows the detoxifying herbs to take effect.

Here are the ingredients for the mineral-packed smoothies that kept me going through this strict programme, featuring; mango, strawberries, walnuts, sea moss, lime, butternut squash, and mineral water.

Sea Moss The sea moss contains 92 minerals essential to our bodies needs as we are made up of 102 minerals, therefore providing nourishment where our bodies require these minerals. These minerals help stave off cravings for sugars, unhealthy carbs and salty foods we find ourselves craving.

Walnuts Known for its Omega 3 fatty acids for heart health, a 2012 Journal of Alzheimer's Disease report found that eating walnuts on a clean diet was associated with better memory and brain function.

Mango Among its vast benefits mango alkalises the whole body! And, its thick skin is more prone to withstand the penetration of pesticides. Although, I'd advocate for organic where possible.

Strawberries In addition to antioxidants, they have many other nutrients, vitamins, and minerals that contribute to overall health. These include folate, potassium, manganese, dietary fibre, and magnesium. It is also extremely high in vitamin C!

Lime One fluid ounce of lime juice contains 14 percent of the vitamin C daily requirements. Vitamin C is an effective natural water-soluble antioxidant that helps the body develop resistance against infectious agents and eliminates cancer-causing free radicals in the body. I chose key lime as the flavour from these tiny limes are more lemony and sweeter than the average lime. (I find them excellent when adding to bitter herbs).

Butternut Squash The high fibre content of butternut squash is prebiotic that supports healthy bacteria in the gut and promotes regularity. High fibre helps to manage blood sugar, reduce inflammation and diseases associated with inflammation and increase immune function...and makes a great sweet addition to smoothies :)

Mineral Water Bottled mineral water contains up to four times as much calcium and magnesium as regular tap water. One study found that people whose drinking water was low in magnesium were able to lower their blood pressure by drinking a litre of mineral water every day. One important point to also remember is magnesium aids in the absorption of calcium giving us better bone health.
