7 Health Secrets of an Alkaline Vegan Lifestyle

When it comes to life, balance is key in everything we do. Not only do we need the right balance between work and play, our bodies also need the right pH balance which is why my recipes are made totally from alkaline foods.

Your pH is partially determined by the mineral density of the foods you eat. All living organisms and life forms on earth depend on maintaining appropriate pH levels, and it’s often said that disease and disorder cannot take root in a body that has a balanced pH.

Since I’ve made this change to my lifestyle (I prefer this word to ‘diet’ because I want it to be long-term rather than something that has an expiry date), I can’t describe how great I’ve felt. For this reason, I have seven health secrets to the lifestyle today!

Maintain a Healthy Weight - Firstly, foods that are rich in alkaline are normally anti-inflammatory; also, they reduce your leptin levels which has a direct impact on hunger and your body’s ability to lose weight. With these two benefits alone, you’ll feel more satisfied after meals and won’t go craving those pesky snacks!

Longer Life - We all want to live for as long as possible, right? Well, according to the JAMA Internal Medicine Journal, death rates are significantly lower in vegans compared to meat-eaters. Taking it even further, just a 3% boost in calories coming from plant protein reduces the risk of dying by 10%.

Better pH Balance - Although it sounds obvious because this is the main aim of an alkaline vegan diet, a stronger pH balance allows the body to function normally. With a diet full of acid-forming foods, this will eventually lead to your bones being drained of calcium (since this is alkalising). With an alkaline-based diet, the calcium ‘leeching’ is minimised and your bones stay stronger for longer.

Reduce Risk of Stroke - As we’ve seen, this type of lifestyle will decrease inflammation but it’ll also improve hormone production. For the body, this is great news because it severely improves cardiovascular health and can provide protection against hypertension, stroke, memory loss, high cholesterol, and kidney stones; I know…this is quite a list!

Improve Vitamin Absorption - In order for enzyme systems to function correctly, magnesium is required and this is something the majority of people lack right across the world. Over time, this can lead to anxiety, sleeping problems, muscle pains, heart issues, and even headaches. Therefore, alkaline-formed foods will provide the magnesium you need but it also helps to activate vitamin D so it has a double-effect. Since vitamin D is great for our immune systems, it could be the best move you make all year.

More Energy - I'm sure you won’t be surprised to hear this but…meat makes you sleepy! Especially with red meat, the initial boost in energy is soon replaced by the fat content which makes you feel weighed down and sleepy. If you remove this from your diet, you don’t have to worry about foods having a negative impact on your body.

What’s more, since your body is now more balanced than before, the important processes are working as they should, vitamins are being absorbed, and you’ll have more energy to attack the day. If you currently wake up feeling more tired than you were when you went to sleep, I know how you feel but it doesn't have to be this way!

Cancer Prevention - Of course, I always like to be careful when these two words are used together but it really is true with alkaline-formed foods. With an acidic body, cellular metabolism grinds to a halt along with oxygen levels. When both of these things occur, cancer cells are allowed to grow which is always bad news. With a better balance in the system, cell turnover increases along with cancer prevention.
